Alfa Laval’s core business is based on three key technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. A continuous product development process is crucial for strengthening competitiveness. Alfa Laval’s products are sold in nearly 100 countries and are delivered from 20 major production units (12 in Europe, six in Asia and two in the US) and 70 service centres.
With so many units within Alfa Laval, keeping its packaging assortment coherent, uniform and consistent has been a challenge.
In the past, each unit managed its own orders as well as designs for packaging materials, says Claus Møller, Global Purchasing Manager at Alfa Laval.
This failed to accentuate the brand and also resulted in high quantities of products delivered from Boxon.
Boxon conducted needs analyses of existing packaging materials on an ongoing basis. The areas prioritised are transport safety (to minimise damage and returns) and a comprehensive corrosion protection assortment.
It was also important that the solutions were based on a common design and brand identity that could be applied in each market.
By consolidating its packaging assortment and creating a global structure, Alfa Laval streamlines the flow of packaging materials while also ensuring uniform design and strong branding.
