Boxon wins prestigious Packaging Award for sustainable innovation

The award-winning solution

The project focused on optimizing packaging for two types of water pumps, replacing a plastic blister tray with a fully recyclable FSC-certified corrugated cardboard insert.

The new design delivers substantial environmental and operational benefits:

• Doubling pallet capacity:
  Increased from 96 to 192 units and up to 256 for smaller parts.
  
  
• Reducing CO2 emissions:
  Savings of 2,500 tons over the 7-year project lifecycle.
  
  
• Streamlining operations:
  Lowering transport, storage, and handling costs while minimizing waste management efforts.

Key features of the Solution

• Sustainability first:
  The switch from plastic to corrugated cardboard aligns with Volvo's sustainability goals, reducing waste and simplifying recycling.
  
  
• Precision design:
  Customized cutouts ensure product stability and avoid errors during line packaging, thanks to poka-yoke features.
  
  
• Significant savings:
  Enhanced logistics efficiency reduces costs across the supply chain. During the lifetime (7 years) of the project, a total of 25,000 handling units are saved.
